A complete visual health includes healthy eyes and eyelids. The most common diseases in eyelids are:
This problems cause ocular discomfort and may limit the visual range and appearance. Fortunately, this can be treated at the institute with a safe, reliable procedure with no complications.
Ptosis: This can be a congenital problem or it can be acquired with the passing of time. In children with congenital Ptosis, this problem may cause them to involuntarily move their head to the sides in order to see. In adults that develop Ptosis central and lateral vision is limited. If Ptosis develops in one eye only, this gives a visual and aesthetic imbalance to the patient. Surgery can help the patient's vision field and also his/her appearance.
Eyelid Drooping: With the passing of time, many people develop excess skin on the eyelid zone. This is the thinnest skin in the human body; therefore, as time goes by it tends to drop and wrinkle. In the upper eyelids excess skin may develop limitations in lateral vision and also gives a tiredness appearance. Skin excesses on both upper and lower eyelids can be removed through a surgical procedure known as Blepharoplasty that can improve the patient's lateral vision and also provide a younger look, removing fat from the skin in the same procedure.
Blepharoplasty is a procedure usually done at our Institute with excellent results. Recovery time takes a week, approximately; the procedure is regularly done with local anesthetics, the same cares are taken as with any other surgical procedure, and the results are simply astounding!
Ectropion: Pulled-down lower eyelids because of age make the inner part of the eyelids grow irregularly to the outside. This disease is known as Ectropion, usually caused by burns, wounds or a badly treated infection. Ectropion may cause dry eyes, excess tearing, red eyes, and high sensibility to light and wind. Surgery corrects the effects of this disease besides turning the eyelid back to normal.
Entropion: This happens when a lower eyelid gets inside the eye. The disease has to do with age, but can also be provoked by a badly treated infection or eye poking. When the eyelid gets in the eye or constantly brushes it, eyelashes and skin will irritate causing red eye, tearing, infections and high sensibility to light and wind; in severe cases a constant irritation of the cornea can result in serious damage to vision.
At Méndez Lasik Institute, the aforementioned oculoplastics are practised by highly qualified doctors. Most of these procedures require no hospitalization and require only local anesthetics. These procedures not only correct vision, but can also avoid ocular discomfort and improve physical appearance with great cosmetic results.
